65 Full Size Car carpet installation

Bucket seats. Mount below or above the carpet? I'm sure it's below. Any pictures and or instructions on where to cut. Im thinking a slit type cut between the front seat brackets?

There was a discussion about whether the seat mounts above or below the carpet in the 1961-1966 tech section some time ago, you could do a search there. I'm pretty sure the consensus was the seat mounts go below the carpet, with a slit cut for the brackets but you'll have to check.

I recall this conversation quite well in that several people who had obtained old original cars which still retained the original carpet, the consensus was certainly the seats were bolted metal to meal (floor) and the carpet was slit to allow for this.

It stands to reason that metal to metal is the only safe way to fit the seats. Bolting through the carpet will always allow a possible small degree of movement which of course is inherently unsafe.

In my own case, 20 years ago, I had to obtain a Certificate of Roadworthiness before I could register my car. I was required to remove the seats, bolt them metal to metal before I could get the RWC. That of course is here in Australia, in the USA, it may be a totally different standard.

I used this procedure when installing the carpet in my El Camino.
