'64 or '65 GTO, which do you like best?

Which one do you like best?

We're only choosing between the '64 and '65 GTOs here.

Give your reasons if you like, but be sure to vote!

65, because of the tail lights and tail panel, the hood, and the front end. That being said, I would like to add a 64 to my garage, because it is the original.

I voted for the '65 even though I own a '64. I bought mine before the '65's came out. I like the center hood scoop and the tail lights. For me it is a toss up on the orientation of the headlights.

Family has had both. Retain 2 of the 65's. Better lines and highlights on the 65. The 64 is a little boxy looking for me.

I will own a 65 someday ...the 64 just doesn't do it for me...it's like looking at the ugly sister.

I like the '64 better because it is the ORIGINAL MUSCLE CAR.

My other reason is that I bought a '64 when they came out in '64. Purchase price was $2855 with 3.90 gears, 4 speed. You can look at the attached invoice.

That's a purchase I've never regretted. Notice in the picture it's Cameo Ivory. The original black has it's own story you wouldn't want to read.

I do regret that it burned in a house fire in 1986. I have the engine and trans from that car in my '64 sedan.

I've owned 3, 65s (2 hardtops and 1 ragtop) and no 64s so I guess the 65s statistically are my favorites.

Kinda like the 68-69 cars, the refinements after 1 year made them better, at least IMO.

65 for sure- better hood, better headlight (stacked), better tail lights and tail panel, better interior (upholstery) design, better gauges (rally), better wheels (rally), and more. Only thing I like better about '64 is the wood wheel.

I love the '64 but I have lusted for a '65 for as long as I can remember caring anything about cars. It was the first GTO I ever came into contact with. A triple gold 4 speed when I was 9 or 10 years old doing burnouts on the street behind my house.
Aside from that, I love the stacked, staggered headlights and a tail panel that just can't be beat.

Definitely the '65. That one year only interior, vertical headlights, and many more.

Not a GTO but here's mine, I vote '65 although I have and love both...its the rear end that does it!

This is tough for me my first love for Pontiacs was the 64 GTO. My first car that I bought on my own was a 64 lemans post. I have definately grown to like 65's

aljan 04-22-2016 01:21 AM

I like them both, but the 64 is my favorite. When I was looking for my first car, I came across a 64 and I loved the lines! I still do, and have always regretted selling that car. The 64's had the best steering wheels too!

The Champ 04-22-2016 06:58 AM

'64 for me - but that is what I own.

It's also the first year - which will always make it desireable. I'd like to have functioning hood scoops like the '65 - but the hood was the same from '65 - '67. That makes the '64 unique in that respect.

The side by side headlights makes the front end look wider - a plus in my eyes.

And I really prefer the engine turned metal dash insert to the wood grain version - especially with the optional sport steering wheel.

All that being said - I'd love to own an Iris Mist '65 because of the uniqueness of the one year color.

You really can't go wrong with either the '64 or the '65.

It has to be a '64. The original muscle car and the first year GTO.

No other year did it better !

Keith Seymore 04-22-2016 11:24 AM

Man! I'm all over the place on this one;

'64 - first year of the original musclecar
side by side headlamps make it look wider
Prefer the engine turned dash insert to the woodgrain (seems more performance oriented)
Love (LOVE) the spinner hubcaps
All our '64's were red

'65 - stacked, forward leaning headlamps
Functional cold air intake
Rally wheels were the first styled, stamped steel wheels with cap and trim ring
It's what I have
I'm a softie for black cars with red pinstripes

Looks to me like the nod goes to the '64....
