1970 Firebird Heater Blower

3 Attachment(s)
Hi everybody
When I bought my car ( it is a 1970 Firebird Esprit ) it came with the heater and blower removed. And in place is a heater motor from a classic Austin Mini
Like this one
Attachment 528814

It works fine but is not right

So I take it I will have to re-cut these areas in red on my firewall/bulkhead
Attachment 528815

Does anything else have to be cut on the firewall/bulkhead ?

I also have this, will this be the correct one for the inner heat box
Attachment 528816

I will need to get the inner and outer heat boxes but will it be for A/C or non A/C
I am not be bothered with having A/C but don't know if they are interchangeable with the bulkheads/firewalls

Thanks Guys for any input
Mick

Ok, so after a morning of being on Google I have come to the conclusion that my firewall is for A/C
So my next question is, as they seem more readily available, will non A/C heater boxes, inside and outside, fit my firewall with a bit of cutting of the firewall.
I am not afraid to use my angle grinder :-)
Thanks
Mick

Hey ... somebody help this guy out!

steve v 01-15-2020 10:33 AM

That looks like a non-ac firewall to me.

unruhjonny 01-15-2020 11:30 AM

that vent duct is for an A/C car;
The metal attaching tab is the clear identifying point to me.

So is your firewall currently flat/smooth?

You could probably get a firewall section from a dismantler like Franks Pontiac Parts, Second Gen Graveyard, or someone here...
Depending on what your car started out as, or what options you would like to have, you can determine if you want to do, because at this time it sounds like you can set it up as either an A/C car, or a non-A/C car...

From what I can see on Google it is a firewall for A/C cars.
So I will get ine of the A/C delete kits at some point and the inner box for the heater core. I will then be sorted and will be able to remove the Austin Mini heater box from under my dash.
The holes for the outer heater box have been plated over but I think they are just stuck in not welded
Thanks guys :-)
Mick

looks like its NON ac.

this is a 73 firebird with air conditioning, I don't think its any different for 70-73. much different heater core location etc.

Hi JUDGE3
The picture you have put up is like my firewall.
If you look at the picture of my firewall, the holes for the blower motor and EVAP have been plated over from inside. I have outlined them in Red

The two pipe connectors you see on mine are coming from the Austin Mini Heater box, inside my car.

I will remove the plates next week, and the Austin Heater box.
I have bought an A/C heater inner box, and will get it ready to fit. Needs a bit of a tidy up. Will take about 2 weeks to get here though :(

I am currently trying to get an A/C delete box kit from here https://www.acdelete.com/pages/70-81_F-Body.htm

But they are not answering my emails for some reason

Thanks JUDGE3 for helping and everyone else
Much appreciated
Mick

Thank you JUDGE3

I bought a Non A\C faceplate a few months ago, because all I had was a hole
So sorted out my dashboard

Ok
So I recieved my A/C inner box today.
Because I will be running with A/C delete my heater controls in the dash are for non A/C cars. But I have no control cables.
So my next question is will non A/C control cables fit to a A/C heater box that holds the heater core.
Thanks for any help
Really appreciate it
Mick
