2019 Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race

This event will be the 25th anniversary of the PSMCDR at Mid-Michigan Motorplex north of Stanton, MI on September 12, 13, & 14. We'd love for anyone that wants to join the fun and see what all the fuss is about to bring your stock muscle car, or Pontiac sleeper...and if you can't bring a car to race, then come watch all the action instead. Don't worry about being the quickest and fastest, but have fun learning how to tune and race your car. It is the best fun you can have at any car event!

Thursday (12th) is early tech, Friday (13th) is tech and time trials, Saturday (14th) is warm-up runs and pairing races (best two of three) of the closet matched qualifying et's. Check out our website for the rules and other particulars at PSMCDR.com.

Feel free to PM me with any questions. Thanks!

Dennis

I'll be there, as usual, debuting a new car. I am VERY excited. restoration took four years.

this event is the most fun you can have with your cloths on

SD455DJ 08-30-2019 12:56 PM

Chris - I didn't find any pics of your Firebird on-line, actually the PSMCDR images link. Please post one of your F-body...everyone may contribute to the thread.

Can't wait to see the new racer!

from the article in HMM about last years race

SD455DJ 09-02-2019 09:37 AM

Chris....you got me there! I forgot about the HMM article with your 68 in the intro. I was just looking through the pics in the "Images" link when I googled PSMCDR. I did this rather quickly so may have overlooked a pic of your Bird if it was in there. I did find quite s few of your GT-37!

GTO's are many at the races and all years are well represented except for 1972, 1973, & 1974. I will say the Jody Trayler brought the only '72 and '74 to the race that I recall.

The early Tri-power Goats have run solidly in the mid to low 13's (no 12's as IIRC), the '67 RA GTO's have run hi-12's, '68.5 RAII's very low 12's, '69/'70 RAIV's mid to low 12's, '71 455HO's mid to high 12's, and the sole 455HO '72 of Jody's in the low 13's with potential for mid 12's easy with more seat time.

GT-37's are gaining popularity and exposure with Paul Glasgo's '70 Magnum 400 and Chris Smetana's '70 400 GT-37 running solid mid 12's and the sole '71 GT-37 (400/4-bbl/TH400) running low 14's.

We have many RAIII GTO/Judges that run from the hi 12's to the mid 14's in various stated of prep and tune.

Chris, your GT-37 hasn't been retired, has it? Love to see it run.

Been a few months since I spoke with an Olds friend of yours from down this way. Matt mentioned he would be in attendance with family this Sept. Am still trudging along with bodywork, looking fwd to making the trip. 2021 is the hard goal for my red car.

Semi-retired. I have a 68 Firebird which will eventual get the same treatment as my GT-37, improvements every year. This year I'm debuting my 69 Cutlass W-31, a car I've been wanting to race at PSMCDR since I spectated in 1999. Life got in the way. Four year ago I started the rotisserie restoration and that has finally been completed. The GT-37 recently had the top end of the motor refreshed. I'm planning to take it to a race in Maryland next month. I'm leaning towards bringing it back to Stanton in 2020.

Yes, Matt mentioned meeting up with you. He and the family made the trek up to Martin, MI for the FAST/Factory Stock race this past May/June. I let him take the Firebird down the track a couple times. He's hooked. Never drove the car before, but managed 14.99

Weather Forcast is Looking Good!

It looks like just early morning showers on Friday, then sunshine and perfect racing temperatures by noon. Saturday is looking terrific as well, so we are expecting quick times from the cars.

We hope you plan to come out to race, or spectate, and have a great time watching what these cars do best, next to looking great.

I forgot to mention that our rules can be found at PSMCDR.com if you want to race...the abbreviated version is all stock that sounds stock.

Looking at the event information for this year, it would cost me $250 to get me, my family of 5, and my car into the show? Can you confirm. I raced this event one other time and it was a great time.

This still gives me hope that I'll squeak a 12. Dennis I'd like to send you a PM sometime to talk about something I recently changed on the car looking for that elusive 12 second slip.

As always, wish you guys the best and hope the weather cooperates and you have a fantastic event. Wish I was there.

Well, the 25th Pure Stock Drags are now in the annals of time and were pretty successful despite having rain on Friday. But, the track was prepped and ready for racing by 3 pm and we extended the qualifying until 7 pm. The 115 cars that came made almost 600 passes down the track in that 4 hour window! Saturday was perfect racing weather as was forcast with temps in the low 70's, lower humidity, and perfectly sunny skies. There was a 10-15 mph headwind, but it was half what it was on Friday. There were many new cars this year which is always great to see, plus heard about many new cars coming on the future.

It was wonderful seeing all the great people we now call friends and making new ones. We had a pretty good crowd spectating on Saturday too (photo courtesy Tim Costello...thanks Tim!).

Next years race is September 17, 18, & 19 so put in your calendars now.
