1980 Trans Am Door Seals
I want to replace my worn seals. All the catalogs state they are held on by nylon or plastic pins. This would mean pre punched holes in the door edges. On my car the seals are glued on. It's messy so I assume not original. Before I tear into them, I'm wondering do all 1980 cars have the holes?

They are usually glued as well as push pins.

All 2nd gen firebirds should have the holes in the door for the push in pins, i have a 72, 78 & 81 and they all have the holes... as well as all the other cars ive owned over the years including 1980.
Best value for door weatherstrip IMO is metro brand, they look, fit & function very good and have held up for 15 some years on my 78 and almost as long on the other 2. Most if not all aftermarket weatherstrips were glued on along with the push pins. |
Metro I agree is the best. Tried Soft Seal on the Camaro and could not shut the doors! I was luck and found some GM when I did the 81 TA a few years back.

Certain seals probably work better on certain cars with their unique adjustments, so better seal isn't always the same for all. Door and window adjustment can make a seal fit much better, or worse!
Assume the glue is covering the holes as well, or perhaps you haven't tried pulling the old seals off to find out. They don't need too much, just enough to stop moisture getting through between rubber and panel. It's not to hold them on. |
