Factory Two-Tone Paint on 64/65

I was inspired by talk in another tech forum about “two-tone” paint.

I’m a Big fan of the “two-tone” cars that were produced in the 60’s.

I’m sharing what I have on file for the 64/65 Tempest Series automobile.

Below is a Pontiac built ‘64 with an R-T paint code.

R = lower body, Alamo Beige
T = upper body, Singapore Gold

Beautiful car!

Chris.

I too like 2 (or 3 tone) cars. My first car was a 1960 Bonneville with Sierra Copper Poly body with Shelltone Ivory top.

I remember as a young kid going to the Olds/Caddy dealership where my dad worked and "playing" with the flip color charts that had overlays so that you could put your 3 tone paint options together using overlays to show you what the color combinations that you were considering looked like.

Red/White, Yellow/Black and Black/White are classic 2 tone options.

But that Alamo Beige/Singapore Gold car is only slightly better looking than an Alamo Beige car - the absolute worst color option for a '64 GTO in my opinion. And yes, I have seen a '64 Alamo Beige GTO in person....

the original paint on my 65 lemans was ivory bottom, black top with metallic red interior. this is 25 year old repaint, still retained the chrome dividers. color is cadillac firemist metallic charcoal base coat/clear coat.

The '64 Alamo Beige/Singapore Gold and the '65 black/white were both owned by a friend of mine. Here's a couple of pictures of the '65 at the 2015 GTOAA National show. The picture you see the chandelier in is a reflection off of the hood. I couldn't believe the paint could be that perfect.

This is a picture of the black car at one of our local car shows. He sold the car to buy a Tiger Gold '65 convertible. Restoration should be done some time next year.

Wow...I can't even imagine the hours to prep for paint like that. Stunning.

The twin to this car has shown up at Eagle Field in the past. Car is a nice driver but not as nice as this. I thought the white painted roof ruined the look of the car, personally. If it were red or silver, maybe better. It was also looking at this car that helped me give up on the idea of finding and installing the original custom wheel covers. I don't like the way they have a big gap between the cover and the wheel. In photos they look cool, in person, not my style. A friend bought a rusty '65 about 25 years ago that was two tone: Nightwatch Blue bottom, and Yorktown Blue up top...painted. Very odd looking, but distinctive. If it were mine I would have painted the top Nightwatch to match the bottom. As usual, great stuff, Chris.

I have the vinyl top trim for my 65 sedan, so am interested in looking at these cars. I know personal preference comes into this
but my leaning would be to the more subtle colors above and below. For me the first car, the 64 GTO is the nicest. When high
contrast colors are used it detracts from the cars line.

Diego,

No offense and myself appreciate your invite to your FB post, but I detest that site !

I’ll stay right here on a Forum that’s dedicated to Pontiac.

Regards, Chris.

No need to apologize. I know not everyone is on FB, but I do moderate a two-tone page there.
