Send off and get the Pontiac PHS documents, that might help....

PHS is always nice to have, but I dont think you will get any more info than you already have regarding finding the original owner.
|
Maybe the DMV of each state would have records of when it was registered there based on VIN. In Texas usually the title has the previous owner on it.

Put an ad on CL in Dyer TN looking for original owner or someone who might have known the car back in the day.
Is that dealer still open? I was tracking down original owner of a '82 Vette we purchased a couple of years ago. Dealership is still open and I spoke with a salesman who remembered the car and who it was sold to! |

I have been searching (on & off) for previous owners of my GTO. Posted adds in the city it was originaly sold & were it was last purchased from the guy I bought the car from in 2001. Got nothing but well wishes from other car enthusiasts, which was cool, but didn't lead anywhere. :( Some states have a form you can fill out to get vehicle history from, provided its being used for the correct purposes. Wisconsin has that form, but they only keep records for about 10 years so its kinda useless for this type of thing. I filled it out for three of my cars & all that turned up was my own info :D
I purchased my GTO in Rockford iL, & I have not pursued research in the illinois DOT system. But they might have something similar to Wisconsin. Did you buy the car in IL & where was the dealer that ordered it originally? EDIT: sorry, missed this comment: Dyer Motor company Inc in Dyer Tennessee.. Have you tried the dealership, just to see if there is any chance they have records stored that far back? Doubtful, but you never know. I have a 1989 GTA that had the dealer decal on the bumper. Contacted them & they found some paperwork they had from the sale. Thought that was amazing. They must have a room full of file cabinets. Not likely at a bigger dealership, but you never know..... https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...1&d=1579440276 |
Thanks for posting picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! very cool.....

It's amazing it's still standing.

I just nabbed the picture from google streets. I wonder if its old signage? Still shows up in searches, but likely not a GM dealer anymore. GM has all but made it completely impossible for small dealers to survive anymore. So many cool small dealers gone & replaced by the centrally located mega dealers.
