9.3 rear swap gasket or no

Just bought a new 9.3 rear for my 62 GP And I’m wondering what you guys suggest. I have used Permatex 81182 with good results on the back cover of the cast aluminum cover on The 12 bolt in my GTO but I’m thinking I should use the gasket with a thin coating on the chunk in my 9.3. Your thoughts are appreciated. Posted in racing bc I figure more here have used the 9.3. Thanks

I'll tell you what does not stop leaks. Early 70s late Friday night at gas station changing gears in my 63, gasket was destroyed taking apart, owner who had a SS dodge said use string! X d it around the studs with a little sealer. Worked but leaked later. So I got gasket.

A good rtv like the right stuff may work better than a gasket but will be a pita to get it broke free.

I used The Right Stuff on my 9" center section. Never again, it too a come along to break it free.
Now I have one 5/16 threaded hole to break it loose. There is no need for that stuff IMO. Just use the Ultra Grey and be done with it.

May not be an issue, but the gasket or not will effect how deep the side gears / 3rd member sets in the housing. Think Center line of axles and gears.

Exactly. I was thinking the gasket would effect alignment with the axles. I’m guessing the factory used a gasket?

This is the rtv that I used with my 12 bolt cover. I’ve also used the ultra gray before.

I’m also thinking about making two studs to put in the top holes to hang the chunk on. It’s heavy as heck. Over 100 pounds. I can see me destroying the gasket and being covered in sealer.
