Is/was the rear spoiler a delete option?

Or do owners delete them? There is one in the car show picture post, the silver one.

Verdoro 68 03-02-2006 03:11 AM

As far as I know, owners are doing them on their own. I kind of dig the look.

Jeff R 03-02-2006 04:25 AM

Spoiler delete is/was not an option. Like Verdoro said, owners do it themselves. Most often people remove the spoiler then fill the holes with plastic plugs painted to match. That way they can easily go back to stock should they choose. Others go the more expensive route and have the deck lid professionally filled & repainted. I've been toying with the idea myself for several reasons. The stock spoiler is non-functional, it's kind of a pain to clean around and it obscures the view out the back window.

Make sure you see one in person. I liked the pictures at first but after seeing one deleted in person, no.

No two ways about it: These cars look 100% BETTER without the spoiler. The spoiler looks gay and very rice.

Jeff , I've only seen 1 yellow 04-06 GTO in "person". Neither had black interior and I didn't care for the modified look. HOWEVER, given the squeaky clean lines of you car which are further accentuated by the solid black interior I think removing the spoiler on your car would only make a great looking car better. Just IMO..

HUMBLER 03-05-2006 03:38 PM

I'd go with that aftermarket duck tail if anything other than the stock. Have you seen it? Very cool.

If I were going to go with a different spoiler, I think I'd go with the JHP lip spoiler. IMO, all the other ones are just too big.

HUMBLER 03-05-2006 11:28 PM

I went looking for an 06 tonight, I really like the rice SAP spoiler! Man the proportions are very nice on the car.

Oh and /\/\/\ is the "duck tail" I was referring to, sharp.

Agreed. The other spoiler whether it be stock or the auto-rice package is just too big and looks cheesey. The ducktail has a smoother, subtle look to it.

THEGTOCHISM 03-06-2006 07:08 PM

i like the duck tail too!

I really like the spoiler on the Woodward GTO. IMO it's perfect, but no one makes a 3-piece like it.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...Woodward_2.jpg

So far the only spoiler I've seen even close to the same design is the AP spoiler. But it's a single-piece which wraps around the rear fenders. It's less rounded and juts out a little too far to the rear for my taste...not what I want. Plus I've heard nothing but horror stories about dealing with AP. Once it gets warmer here and I have the time to mess with the car I'll probably go spoilerless (with plugs) for a while just to see if I like it. I do like the spoilerless look...very clean.

HUMBLER 03-06-2006 10:59 PM

Yeah AP fell to crap didn't they? When Dan was there all was good...

The woodward car is something that should've went into production. I wish it would have been a special edition similer to the Mustang R car. Say 100 made available for 07! I cannot come up with anything that isn't perfect on that car. The interior maybe, they could've done a bit better with the seats, the color was off a bit.

I found some plugs at a local hardware store yesterday...four 3/8" & one 3/4", all for under $2. I sanded & primed them this morning then put on the first coat of yellow. I just used a wide fine-bristled brush and the touchup paint the dealer gave me with the car. No brush marks at all, looks pretty good. I'll put another coat of yellow on then some clearcoat. Depending on the weather I may be spoilerless within the week. Then all I'll need is some '06 black tail lights to go with my blacked out rear bumper insert. Should look pretty damned good.

Jeff R 03-14-2006 07:09 PM

OK, I did it. Four nuts & one plug for the brake light harness. With the plugs already painted it took 20 minutes to remove the spoiler, put the plugs in and polish where the spoiler used to rest (and I'm slow).

I need to check some local shops and see how much it will cost to professionally fill the holes and repaint. The plugs are only temporary...how temporary depends on my wife's mood. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ies/shiner.gif But I really like the clean look of the car without those dogears hanging over the rear fenders, and the increased visibility out the rear window is a huge improvement.

I really need those '06 tails now.

455HOGT37 03-14-2006 08:14 PM

Way better!

Welcome to the "not gay" club.

HUMBLER 03-14-2006 10:06 PM

It's weird, I like the looks from the rear but not the front or side. Cool though man, I guess if you're keeping it for awhile might as well fill them but I'd leave the plugs for awhile just to be sure.
