Rear u-joint in my 56.
Drive shaft was bent in my 56, pulled to have it straightened as best it could. When I pulled the shaft I could not see anything to help center it in the rear yoke. No notches where the cups ride, c-clips on the joint are too far inboard to help. What am I missing?
Thanks, Colt |
Do the cups or saddles have C-clip grooves? My junk box has a bunch of clips that I THINK were from Pontiacs of those years.

Sorry I'm no help. Been too many years gone by.

Rock Auto shows pictures of all the 56 U joints they sell, and they all show inner cir-clips on all 4 caps, on every version..............:noidea:
It shows the dimension as 2.256" as the distance from outer edge of the clips. The one you linked to is a double cardan CV type joint from my experience. I also owned a 56 probably close to 50 years ago, so as Jack said, too long ago to remember that particular detail. |

Would this drawing from the Pontiac 1960 Master Parts Catalog help or just confuse the issue?

I thought 55 was the last year of the mechanics u joint and 56 went to a regular style 3010 joint? I have an extra 55 driveshaft if your looking, would have to double check it against your length
