Dash pad repair and dye Question

I would like to make a minor repair to my black dash pad and renew the color after the repair.

Can anyone advise a good vinal repair product that will accept dye for a uniform
Color ??

Thanks.

Padded dash filler is what I use. It used to be made by urethane supply company but they have changed names. I would have to dig a bit to see what it is. After using the product I use sem texture coating then sem colour dye followed by sem satin clear. Always have had good luck.

Heres a dash I worked on while still in the car, its easier to do the job with it removed but I didn't feel like it this time around, also a console that I brought back to life. Last pic is the filler I use. It is fairly expensive for such a small can, but a little goes a long way.

SEM landeu black is a very good match to the factory black, its a paint, not a dye.

TAKerry- what did you use to match the texture after the filler?

I use SEM texture coating before the 'dye'. It does a really good job with the right touch applied, and a couple of coats. Not exactly factory but for less than $1000.+ for dash reproductions its pretty darn good. I have never been to a Concours show that allows cars as new as mine (77) so I dont really care, and if someone were to point it out, well I guess I wouldn't care about that either!
I believe most of the SEM stuff is called a 'dye' but it works just like a spray paint, im sure its formulated different than the average can of rustoleum.
Also, I get mine from my local auto parts store. If they dont have the colour I need they can get it in a couple of days. I pay about $12-$14 a can which is a lot cheaper than mail order stuff.

thanks, just curious what you used for texture.

SEM products are great. but none of them are called a dye, they are called "color coat" & state on the can it is a flexible paint designed to adhere to plastics & vinyls better than standard paint.

Thank you. TAKerry

Very helpful information.

Do you repair and refinish for others ?

Not a direct pic, but this I did this dash as well, it was completely roached when I got the car. The only thing on the top was black electrical tape!
