66 Pontiac tri power base

Has anyone had any experience with the after market tri power bases from the parts place. #
TP3550G. Good bad or whatever. I have my rear one I can see daylight around the edge also for some reason there is a slight pinhole in each butterfly. Never seen this on a secondary carb. only primary carbs. Very small hole like .010 or so

If metal to metal created a perfect seal, gaskets would be obsolete. In this case you need 2 things DAG sealer and pontiactripower.com . When dealing with specialties, like carbs, go to the ones that specialize. There are a few tri-power guys out there, but I have had great experiences with John and Mike!

bleed hole belongs there , loosen plate screws & close & tap on them to line up , lapping compound for firearms works excellent to seat the plates, not a fan of the brush on DAG sealer & Parts place i would stay away from

chrisp, how does the firearms lapping compound compare to the automotive type, more or less aggressive? Do you massage the bore of the throttle body, the throttle plate or both? This sounds more permanent.

DAG213 was applied to all Tri-Power end carbs from 1959 to 1966 at the factory. The pinholes (about .026") began in 1964 and used through 1966.

I use DAG213 on every Tri-Power I restore, including the ones that seal perfectly with no light visible around the edges. Sometimes, no amount of jockying the plates around the bore will result in no light visible. I have never attempted lapping compound. Here are two NOS '61-'63 end carb bases showing the factory applied DAG.

I also add the .026" holes in the end carb throttle plates. These holes were added to aid in hot starts.

If anyone needs some DAG213, I have a quart I bought last year and some small bottles with a brush to apply the liquid. These are $12 plus shipping.
