Remote mirror dissasembly help

I would like to have my drivers mirror re chromed, so that will mean disassembling the remote control wires from the lever, so that the mirror can be removed fron the housing.

Looks like they are cripped in there, has anyone had any success in doing this? If so tips and pics would be very much appreciated. Cheers -

I would like to hear this also. I have an NOS one installed, but the original has the date coded glass, and I would like to restore it.

I'm sure I read a thread somewhere that "Goat Whore" had dismantled one, though i still dont seem to have any luck with PM on this forum, so i cant message him. Maybe someone might be able to point him towards this thread please?

Read whole thread and do not break glass. There are others if you search.

Was hoping someone might get it, good on you Greg.

Anyway, i did have a crack at it, and was very sucessfull. Thanks to my good buddy Scott Thelander, i have a spare test mirror that i used to practice on. This was extremely usefull, as i was very reluctant to damage my only mirror, though i now know the cable is pretty tough, be gentle but dont be too timid with it.

So what i did was this:
* i used a very small flat blade screwdriver and a set of long nose pliers
* i only worked on the remote end of the cable (not mirror end)
*Use the screw driver to open the crimps on the sheathing and also the ball end of the cable
* pull the sheathing out of the fitting with the use of the pliers (push the lever around to give the most slack before pulling)
* then loosen the ball end as best as possible with the screwdriver, by prying it around.
* Then try to tap the ball end out of the housing.

Like i said just have a crack at it! just don't bust that Mirror! lol.
Cheers, Dave
