Port alignment issue

I'm working on changing some stuff up a little and took off my offenhauser 5499 intake to replace it with oem 69 pontiac intake. I have edelbrock heads and the ports seem too tall for this intake. Obviously I don't have the gasket on here and was just dry-fitting. Once the gasket is there is this going to be an issue?

How does the gasket match up to the intake, will there still be the need 1/8” above the runners on the intake to seal to the head?

Gasket matches the head fine, I'm thinking I need taller ports on the intake. Does the edelbrock performer rpm match up correctly to these heads?

What Edelbrock Heads do you have? What is the flow of these heads.? A stock intake will probably not cut it as it's designed for stock heads. Looks like the ports have been opened up on the heads. Measure the port opening on the heads and post measurements.

I would measure the ports on the heads. Find out which intake gaskets you need. Then look for an intake designed for your application. The Torker 2 is a very nice intake for E-Heads. Also the RPM is well suited. Alot depends on which vehicle and hood clearance. Remember that once you put the intake gaskets on it will move the intake ports higher on the heads. I think most intake gaskets are around .060 There are alot of intake gaskets to choose from. You'll also need to measure the width of the port.

The ports on my RPM were closer to the 1233 gasket than the Torker II I tried. The RPM needed opened up a little. I have no idea how much, if any power you would lose just putting one on untouched. I think it would depend on the whole combo.

You can put the Felpro gasket on the heads and test fit, then test fit to the intake your going to use. The only way to see how they fit is to line the gasket up with the bolt holes on the intake. Gaskets, Manifold, Intake, Composite/Printoseal, 2.20 in. x 1.18 in. Port, .060 in. Thick, Pontiac, 326-455, Set. So there is the measurments for the Felpro gaskets #1233. Just remember that the intake to heads have to seal properly or you will have an air leak and when you start the engine it will want to rev up. Looking at the this 5499 intake, it appears to be a dual carb intake? Not sure why you would want to go to a stock intake. Your signature has most specs of your engine and it looks pretty stout. I think the Torker 2 intake would work great with your combo. What are you running for a carb? |

67,carbs on 2-4s has been covered on this site for year!E carbs are just not a good choice for street driving.There are way better AFBs to use that will take virtually no tuning.FWIW,Tom

Looking at the photos in the first post, it looks like that manifold might have been milled sometime in its past? Looks like it sits really low, and might have been cut to fit a heavily milled set of heads?
I ran a pair of Edelbrock 650's on my Offy manifold and they had good response and good gas mileage. Maybe a stock pair of Pontiac AFB's might have been better, but the Edelbrocks were totally acceptable. |

E heads have the 455 SD sized intake so normal gaskets like the Felpro 1233 do not fit without modification. Same for the Edelbrock 7280 gaskets. At least that is what the Edelbrock tech documents say. Supposed to lower the gasket bolt holes .060" to raise the gasket.

Thought I stepped up until I read that the Offy manifold performs better. I always thought the carbs sitting so low on the Offy would have the mixture all screwed up compared to the higher sitting E manifold. Oh well... |
