Best header gaskets

What header gaskets are you all using? I’ll be running Doug’s round port headers on Edelbrock aluminum heads. I’ve heard a lot of people have success with Remflex but have never personally run them myself. I also have heard of people using The Right Stuff gasket maker with good success but I’m not sure about that since it’s only rated to 450 degrees.

Remflex for sure.Tom

For Sure Remflex for the street, we also had great success with Permatex Ultra Copper as well for our race engines, but for the street you cant best Remflex..

Same application. I use regular old Mr. Gasket, they work fine.

Remflex here as well. Before they get squeezed though they are thick, so you might need longer header bolts.

67gtospud 01-16-2020 10:13 PM

Alright, remflex it is, I see on their website, they claim there is no need to retorque after a couple heat cycles, is it best to retorque anyways?

RocktimusPryme 01-16-2020 10:14 PM

You need to at least check them. I had a couple come loose after the first time.

+ ... what is it... 5 now?

6... Not on my Pontiac but on my Datsun Z with header. I will highly recommend.

must be the odd one but I run standard Fel pro header gasket....never have leaks. Seem to last 5 years or more. They stay tight as well.

High temp RTV on a street 455 D port with Hooker headers since 1990............:D

Felpro blue header gaskets are excellent. Never had a leak using one to date no matter how poorly made the headers were at the flanges.......Cliff

I used Mr Gasket on my round port 428 with Doug's headers. However, I had to double up on the gasket to make them seal off good.

Scott Stoneburg 01-17-2020 10:55 AM

Fel-Pro. Blue gaskets here.

I ran the Doug's gaskets that came with the headers for years. When I moved the headers to my 455, I ordered new "Doug's" gaskets, I believe from Summit. A completely different gasket. Neither leaked...or, I guess in the case of the newest ones, leaks. Flat mounting surfaces, thick flanges and the right bolts will generally get you no leaks with a decent gasket and a little bit of care.

I use copper. With a good header and mounting flange they've worked good for me for a couple decades on a few cars, and are reusable.

I use the Mr. Gasket Ultra-Seal ones, the grey ones, they work really well, and easily available.

Been using my copper gasket for 20+ years with no issues. Couldn't tell you what brand though.
