1966 442!

I know it isn't a pontiac. But i figured id show you guys and see what ya think. I came across this 1966 442 convertible and couldnt pass it up. The car was recked in 1969. Its a 4 speed with a red interior and black exterior with a white top. The car has been picked over like all the badges, bucket seats, and console are gone. I know it looks rough but you wont find a car with more solid quarters and trunk. Needs some floor work but not bad at all. Not a big olds guy so I'm prbly going to sell it to a friend of mine who is. Let me know what u guys think!

Pax.

Any convertible is good...but a 442 runs a close second to any Pontiac...cool cars!

Tripower455 11-07-2011 12:43 PM

When I was looking for my 66 project, I came across a nice '66 442 'very project locally for a great price. It even had a 4 speed an original Olds tripower setup. It would've been a much easier resto than my '66 GTO, and I sometimes regret not grabbing it.

Alas, I am a Pontiac guy, so I'm not that disappointed!

Before I bought my first 69 GTO in high school, almost bought a 69 Olds 442 Ht. Bench seat, auto on the column, hubcaps, light green green interior, looked like an old lady's car.

The first car I bought when I was 15 was a 68 442. Would love to find another one someday, be a nice stablemate for the GTO. Nothing wrong with an Olds, very strong runners. I'd say even though alot is missing it's a nice find.

Man, nasty wreck that 442 suffered, eh?

That is a great car. Hope it can be saved!

Wow, what a mess. Good quarters and a trunk lid. Needs everything (and I mean everything) else. Anyone who thinks that car is worth fixing needs to have their head examined. Great color combo, but ultimately '66-67 442s are rather ungainly (especially compared to other GM A-bodies of that era) with very limited collector interest. But if you're into dumping a truck load of money in a car that may return about 25-33% of it, this is a great candidate for "resto."

Steve Barcak 11-08-2011 11:45 AM

Nice find. Hope it finds the right home to be restored. I think you will find someone who wants it.

Engine-Ear 11-08-2011 02:52 PM

GTOnly, IMO, the ungainly days for the '66 & '67 Olds A-bodies will be ending soon if they haven't already.

Yeah it's pretty wrecked but what's the worst it needs, maybe a frame swap?

Well I guess i need my head examined. I don't appreciate people bashing my car that im going to restore. People like that give just give more motivation to restore the car. Its one of my favorite cars and thats why I bought it. there was only 1300 66 442 4 speed verts built. car is very very solild well worth restoring. the front clip was just sittin on it, once i took it off it looks much better.

Thanks
Pax

This the way i look at it. Put a differ front clip on it and a lil frame work. whats wrong with the car? not a whole lot IMHO.

Thanks

I went to a junkyard and asked a guy for any tripower stuff. He had a pretty rusty Olds intake with the end carbs and a few other pieces on it. Guess how much he wanted??? A thousand dollars. After checking with Oldsmobility I bought it, kept the carbs (same as Pontiac but reversed) and sold it for $950 to a 442 guy.
Evidently, this is a thousand dollar intake with parts to an Olds guy.

The '66 Olds tri-power is a one year only intake, IIRC. Spendy sh!t, eh?

PonchoV8 11-10-2011 12:01 AM

Correct, and there were a pretty limited number of tri power cars.

Ah, so you're going to restore it. Thought you weren't a big Olds guy and were going to pass it on to a friend. But I digress... Just speaking from experience on the value proposition. I agree, though, the quarters and trunk lid are nice.
