Main Cap Orientation
 
I've seen a lot of conflicting information about this topic so I figured I'd ask the experts... Are the tangs in the main bearings supposed to line up on the same side or opposite sides from each other? When looking at the rear main cap, the tangs for the upper and lower are on opposite sides, but when I pulled the engine apart the rest of them were together. Also, pictures that I have seen show them both ways... So, when looking at the bottom of the block should the cast numbers on the main caps be on the driver side or passenger? Thanks in advance.

Thank you Jeff. It just amazes me how many pictures I've seen of these engines assembled with the main caps the other way around. Including Hemmings...

I can't say I've taken notice other than how I've always viewed it from the service manuals, '67 SM pic shown below.
