Can’t say for sure that it’s factory specs, but my 3/4 line to water pump is 48” and 5/8 hose to back of block is 40”.

How did you determine those lenghts ?

kk68 04-26-2020 12:39 PM

I assume I used the hoses I removed to determine the lengths, but they were unlikely to be the originals.

Im still looking for some factory info on the proper length of these 2 cooling lines. You would think some place there is info on what the factory length was for these lines.

ddcrank 04-28-2020 07:49 PM

Kk68 was there any brakets on your car that held the cooling lines as they made their way from the firewall to there final destination in the front and rear of the engine

kk68 04-29-2020 08:37 AM

No, there were no brackets for cooling lines on mine. And I think that is correct for A/C cars. I think non-A/C cars had a bracket on the fender well and possibly one one the block but don’t think these were present on those with air conditioning.
Have you checked the assembly manual?

ddcrank 04-29-2020 10:25 AM

Yes i have looked at my assembly manual for 69 and they show part numbers but no lenghts and of course the hose on our 68s goes directly to the rear of the engine and 69 the rear engine hose goes to a water valve on cars with AC. i do not have an assembly manual for 68 not sure they ever offered the public a copy of a 68 manual if they do please let me know where i can get one.

No 68 Assembly manual.

Here are two photos of A/C cars. Most I've seen have a clamp on the passenger side inner fender for the front hose. Then again, theres a photo of what appears to be without a clamp.

Decades ago when there were real parts places and not chain/franchise stores, these "old time" parts places usually were family owned and had people staffing them who knew parts. I remember back in the late '60's going to one to get heater hoses for my Olds. The parts guy had an idea of the length of the various hoses but looked up in one of the many parts catalogs (held in a large rack several feet long on the counter) and these old catlogs listed the hose diameter and the length for the hose (as frequently the supplier also supplied the big 3 with hoses and had the factory lengths in their books). Most of these old time parts houses went under with the infusion of AZ and O'R and others into the local business environment. Usually these catalogs were tossed or sometimes acquired by customers to sell at flea markets.

Maybe a member here has one of these old catalogs with the lengths in it and will chime in. Wish I had tried to salvage some of these catalogs back then but youth frequently lacks wisdom.

Yes thats exactly what I need. I have a good friend who is a manager at Advanced auto and he has searched for information through his suppliers and nothing has come up yet. Has to be one of those old Birch Bark manuals out there yet.
