Proper Rally 1 center caps and lugs?

Helping a friend with his 66... my 66 had aftermarket center caps held on by a friction fit, while these are held on with the lug nuts. Of course the bad part is wearing paint in the cap face with the lug socket.

Which style is correct? Should these be used with longer nuts?

Thanks!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0fea1caaee.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ebc7c961f8.jpg

Those with bracket on back are aftermarket.
Original pops on like hubcap.

I have a new aftermarket cap still in year one box.

FWIW...

Looks like they just some fine-tuning to get them to seat tighter.
I tweaked mine a bit to get good results.

Also may look into a thin wall socket, My tires are on and off at least twice a season for brake inspections and such. I have been lucky with my paint.

If he wants to repaint them, I've had great results and longevity with the DC Hi-Po wheel coatings. On both the the Rims and Center Caps.

Cheers
