Looking for any of their old newsletters?

The Boss 08-01-2017 08:20 PM

Thanks guys, no I have a few of those, don't really need any others.

The license plate is really what I'm looking for and will pay well for it.

I think Rick gave me a stack of those plates. I will see if I can remember where I stored them. Might have some key chain fobs and a few other items. Hopefully I can remember where they are...

Did you buy his blue car with the 455 in it? That was a sweet ride...

No I bought the white 71 GT-37 that was due to be their next project after they finished the RA V Judge but things changed for them. The car went through several owners in between but ultimately I think it was restored/built into what their plan would have been - 455HO/Auto/3:73 12 Bolt. I'm taking it out to Norwalk this weekend, shooting for 12's.

Checked my storage building where I thought they might be boxed but didn't find them. Last possible place to look is at my uncle's home in Albuquerque. I will give him a call and ask him to check.

The background color of the plate photo posted earlier is more ivory than I remember.... weren't those more of an off white color originally?

I think you're right about the original off-white color on the plate.

It's probably the lighting making the pic look more ivory.

Did a lot of business with John and Rick back in the day.

The Boss 08-08-2017 07:58 AM

I thought they were off white too - will take it any way it comes.

Update.
So no luck on the plates. They must be lost for good. However, I did find the original logo artwork that John gave me to make the screens. I believe the first few plates were made with vinyl cut on a Gerber machine. Those plates were put on the customer cars that competed at various GTO shows across the country. John decided to offer the plates for sale due to a large number of requests that he received after the cars were shown so we made up some masks to give to the silkscreen shop that produced the items that were sold via the Pipeline. I think the price was $8.95 plus shipping....not sure why I remember the price, just stuck in my head for some weird reason.

At any rate....I can probably reproduce those plates in vinyl (just like we did for Ralph's RA V car). I have the PMD logo so all I would need to do is layout the text. I don't remember the font but I can use the photo posted by Chris as a guide to come up with a very very close match. I think I want to give it a try for old times sake....I can use the plate for my 68 restoration that is nearly complete so that would be a fun little tribute to the fellas. I will post some pics when I make the first plate and see if there is any interest in duplicates. Wish me luck!

Wow - great info!

PM Sent.

This is what I was able to make with my current resources. I think it's a pretty decent replica. I have The Boss' order.....does anyone else want any of these?
$18(shipped) for the first plate... $11 for each additional plate. This covers my cost. Not trying to make a profit here. Just trying to help any fellow Purely friends.

I am going to run the next batch on Monday. Speak up now if you want one or more of these for yourselves. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ea6e884400.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...27fccffab1.jpg

Oh yeah....these are metal plates....just like the originals. Not plastic. Printed with UV resistant ink. We use this same process to print regulatory signs (no parking, handicap, stop signs etc...). Should be fairly durable but not indestructible.
