'68 Firebird?
I'm looking to buy a numbers matching rust free '68 Firebird. It's a rolling chassis car. With all of the parts. Either most parts have been restored or has nos parts. It's a non air 400 with a TH400 trans. Not sure what HP motor it has yet. He also has the PHS. It also a greenish blue color with a black vinyl with black interior. Don't have all the options, PS,PDB,PW,console, folding rear seat. He's asking $5000.00. What's it worth? Thanks Scott:usa2:

Given what you've described, if all the parts are there $5000 sounds like a reasonable deal. What's the color code on it?
|
code K maybe?

Thanks for responding back. I'm going to look at again tomorrow. He said he found the PHS papers.Get back to you guys. Scott

68 bird
I sold my 68 bird to HOLT auto sales 4/2009 & it was med terq. I have lots of pics of it on film but don't have any here. When I was out most everyone thought the color was great. Must better the the same old Vedero Green. Mine was a #'s match conv. 4 spd. P.S. 350 4bbl. posi. single exhaust. The factory exhaust was on it with 100k the exhaust only had a small patch in it in all that time. CA. car. 2 owner. Holt auto is in Holt MI. That color really looks great when fresh & new.

I'm 99% sure I'm going to get the '68 Firebird!(after the holidays) Found out it has bird glass. I have a question. The 400 came with a 10.75:1 compression ratio. Can that motor run on pump gas?

Thanks, that's what I thought. What are you guys doing/using if your motor is original stock?
|
a mix of AV fuel will work
and or a lead additive and octane booster |
I'm going to have to rebuild the motor. Think it will be it's first rebuild? Pros and cons on going with stock compression 10.75:1? Pros and cons going with lower compression? Any cost advantages? Scott

easiest way is to change heads and get the hardened seats at same time
save your heads(16?) for a rainy day |

Man, I'd love to have a K-2 code '68 400 'bird to be a stablemate with my K-2 code '68 GTO.
When I had my engine built, I used KB dished pistons, zero decked and kept my original 16 high compression heads. I haven't driven the car on the street yet but I expect it will run fine on mid-grade octane fuel. Also, there was a long thread a while back on using toulene as an octane booster. Do a search. |
