Is it worth upgrading to RAM AIR IV Aluminum Heads?
Thinking about upgrading to Edelbrock RAM AIR IV Aluminum Heads this winter.
My set up currently is 455 bored .30 over, TRW Forged Pistons, 4X Heads with Comp cam ram air V and Nodular Crankshaft 9799103 Who is running 455 with aluminum heads? How much horse power would I be gaining? Can I run on pump gas 87 or 93? Thanks in Advance for feedback :) |
Stock RA-IV cast iron heads flow 230 cfm at 25" of Test Pressure.
Edelbrock Aluminum RA-IV Heads will flow 280 cfm at 25" of test pressure STOCK and are lighter. 50 cfm increase per port does make a difference on an engine. Tom V. |
Thanks for reply
Thanks for reply. Any idea of about what the compression would be? And how it would run on 87 octane? Horsepower increase?

Horse power and 87 octane are maybe the two words I haven't read in 20 years on any performance car forum. You'll see a 21% increase in air flow so if you're air fuel ratio is the same you'll notice a power increase.
I wouldn't bother running anything lower than 92 or 93 if you're looking to make power, have a heavy vehicle and throw some timing in it (36 etc). You have more to lose then 30 cents per gallon saved. |
Haha, Not trying to be cheapskate at all. Current set up runs great on 87. Was just curious, I'm a fairly stock guy and my first build, and want to gain some more power and performance.
