Header bolts

Im not sure what I did before. When installing headers, should I use moly on the bolts or dry?
Thank you!!

I use copper anitsieze.

Thank you. I was going to use Molly but I pictured it getting hot and melting and dripping out.

No moly grease, big mess.

Really only need antiseize if it's aluminum heads, iron heads you can go dry.

Interesting. I always use stainless ARP bolts and install them dry because I worry that the additional lubrication is going to have the bolts backing out. No use in using Loctite since heat returns the Loctite to a liquid and back into a semi-lubricant. Anti-seize with a high heat rating should stay in place but I worry about lubricating the threads and bolts unscrewing.

So I don't have an answer and can only say that when the headers have needed to come back off there hasn't been any problem with unscrewing the dry install stainless bolts - but I do live in a really dry area and don't have any corrosion type problems anywhere on the cars.

summit carries stainless header bolts that are serrated on the underside of the head, i use anti seize on them & they dont back out. very cheap too, like $15 for a set of 12.

You have a link for those?

I use the ARP ones, they don't back out for me with anti-seize, I checked them somewhat regularly even.

here ya go. $10 for a set of 12. the serations are very nice & are good for at least 2-3 uses that i have done & they still look ok for more uses. they are a softer metal than arp's & you may notice that when tightening with a cheap open end wrench but still able to tighten the hard to reach bolts, & i use a box end or socket where ever possible. the small 3/8 head is nice too on pontiac headers. cant beat them for $10.

Nice! Thank you! Yeah, I see they have 12 points too. That's about half the price of ARPs.
