whats this part, and whats it do?? pics inside.

Im trying to chase a bug in my wiring. Either my wipers work and turn signals dont, or my turn signals work and wipers dont. This really only happens when I push the wash button in on the wiper control. Im thinking its my wiper switch.

I have the 3 plugs for my wiper motor as you see in the photo. Whats the fourth wire for??
it has a female terminal someone crimped on at one time in the cars life. Its seems to be blk with a fading white strip. Its also HOT. Whats yours go to??? it comes out of the same loom of the three wipers plugs.

And whats this thing that was under that blk cap??

thanks, this is for a 70 :usa2:

The silver canister under the black plastic cover is the horn relay/ignition key buzzer.

ANY idea on the wiper wire?? Thanks

My car has recessed park wipers so I don't know. They use a different wiper motor. It does have a black with white stripe wire that is part of the motor electrical connector.

You know where it goes?? The 3 in the pic are obvious. Im just stuck on this 4th wire. THANKS

I remember when I bought the car this 4th wire was just hanging loosely not connected to nothing.

Did you try to follow it back?? Maybe just something previous owner added, as connector is obviously a replacement

No its the original wire. Someone just cut the wire to add the terminal. Still dont know where it goes.

Where does it come from, then (Did u follow it back)?

OK , 1970, FACTORY set up...
A Blue /white stripe goes to the WASHER SOLENOID
A Black with YELLOW stripe goes to the WASHER SOLENOID AND the Wipe motor
Jumper probably with 2 wires in one connector
A Black with WHITE stripe goes to the Wiper motor
A Blue with Black stripe goes to the wiper Motor.
Those are the 4 wires
Now, ALL the wires have a stripe from the factory I think the one your having trouble with is the one that feeds the solenoid and the motor ( Black with yellow stripe)
Clean it with some wax and grease remover, it looks like it has a stripe but it wasnt clear, or close up enough to tell..
Good luck!!
PS. those plastic covers are NOT that common and item so hang on to it!

it goes straight into my fuse panel.

robz 07-23-2010 07:54 AM

OK...so it was used to power something...Any particular place in fuse panel?

Not sure what fuse if any??

Here is the factory harness wrap its in.
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/g...UFFLERS143.jpg

Its a solid black wire with no stripe of any kind (GND) maybe?? thicker then the others also

I did pull the dash to Dye it blk. But Im sure everything was put back together like it suppose to be. This stuff is not like working on a newer car LOL.

i dont have a 70 diagram for an F-body, but for the tempest the ONLY single black wire ( no stripe/s ) up front, that i can see, is horn power, which i assume would be heavy gauge due to the current draw.

the rub is, that comes out of the forward lamp harness, not the engine harness which yours does.

the full size cars DID have a black wire ( no stripe/s ) that went from the wiper motor connector to the wiper switch, which i assume went through the engine harness into the car.

dumb question, do your horns work with that black wire haning loose? if so, that'll rule it out as being horn power.

My horn dont work. I thought a solid BLK wire is a neg wire. But this has power to
it when the key is turned on..

No power when the key is off.

rolling money pits 07-23-2010 01:38 PM

well, that could be a couple issues.....

70 f-body's were "odd balls", to a degree. best to have a wiring
diagram, which i assume you do not.

black, while common for a ground wire, doesnt mean ALL black
wires are grounds thus the need for a diagram.

that wire being so heavy means its got to be high
current, 20+ amp fused i would guess.

see if the fuse block has a fuse for horns and pull it, then check to see
if that still gets power when the key is on.

nevermind....duh! horns have power all the time, so it's not
the horn feed.

sooooo, i dont know what to tell you. if the F-body wiper wiring is
the same as the big cars, then that would seem to be the wire from
motor to wiper switch, but, you indicate the wipers work sometimes
even with that not connected. do you have all speeds for the
wipers? low and high? if only low, maybe that's the "high speed" wire?

* shrug *

you got me.

robz 07-23-2010 01:54 PM

No ground would come from fuse panel...Are you sure someone didn't just add that wire by unwrapping original harness and re-wrapping it, looking like an original factory?

Maybe used a 12v source for an HEI they had on...

rolling money pits 07-23-2010 02:58 PM

i thought about that, but if you look at the photo 3 up
that harness wrap looks pretty virginal, at least the
section going to the bulkhead connector.

if one did in fact un / re-wrap, they did one heck of
a good job!

now, the OTHER end of the harness looks pretty beat
so maybe that wire ( if added by prior owner ) was routed
in that direction?

INFILTRATOR 07-23-2010 04:01 PM

Im the second owner. The whole car was pretty much untouched when I got it.
I can promise the harness tape has never been removed, and that is not a added wire.

Maybe someone with a diagram will chime in..:)

I know this has to be an easy fix LOL
