How about thin dash gauge bezels ?

bird72 11-17-2008 12:57 PM

What is different on the roof drip moldings?

2manyT/A'S 11-17-2008 12:58 PM

I'm getting a bit rusty on this stuff, but as I recall,

- waterpump pulleys are specific to 70 Firebird V8 (both A/C & non)

-Also power steering pump? (one year in second gen.anyways)

-power brake proportioning valves, brackets, lines, etc. (one year in second gen only)

Headlight Bezels
Front Seat Belt Retractors

The thin dash bezel rings (and accomodating dash bezel) were used through '72.

Last year for high compression :)

Blue trunk release button ?? 70 only ??

Different Firebird fender script.

Early inside A pillar moldings have that extra screw hole.

Black center PMD caps.

70s are the coolest :) Good thread.

Dens71TA 11-17-2008 02:17 PM

Stainless side window weatherstrip channel
Trunk floor different above rear axle for EES clearance.

giles 11-17-2008 04:43 PM

Substituting plastic for steel plug wire standoffs
removing the sunvisor center tabs
outboard front seat belts (retractors in 70, flat in 71)
eliminating the chrome engine dress for 71

2manyT/A'S 11-17-2008 05:23 PM

ONLY year for code 10 Polar White (69 + 71 - 81 are code 11 Cameo White)

blue71ta 11-17-2008 06:37 PM

Angle cut on chrome exhaust tips is '70 only

Radiator support is different than '71/'72, correct?

big matt 11-17-2008 07:29 PM

Don't the 71 and up cars have a seat belt light in the dash as to where the 70's do not? That might be another one but I am not near my car to look.

Oops! Core support was already mentioned.

Another one is the manual trans shift knobs (black ball for standard interior, red insert w/shift pattern for deluxe interior/4 spd and red insert w/arrowhead for 3 spd)

big matt: I believe that started in late '72 and went into the '73 model year...

If I new that the 70 bird was so special I woundn't have bought one! I think that photos of these parts would be benificial for all firebird owners.

pressthatpedal 11-17-2008 10:12 PM

Mustn't forget the early 1970 3 piece rear-view mirror that uses a round ball and two-piece screw-together arms that holds the mirror to the ball on the windshield. If that makes any sense.

I'm bummed. Checked my 70 T/A project and found the the LH hood hinge is correct, but the right hand is not, although it still is using the same small-diameter spring. One more piece to hunt down.

pressthatpedal 11-17-2008 10:14 PM

Oh Jees! How could I forget!! The glove box door!! Uses 4 rivets instead of six and has a different pattern stamped in the steel.

wwilder9 11-17-2008 11:15 PM

Wow thats alot of differences, I do like the idea of taking and showing pictures of all the differences. At least after we have identified all of them, that way if someone does not understand a difference, it makes things more understandable. Great thread.....:)

Jim Rotella 11-17-2008 11:45 PM

Some early Lucerne Blue Trans Ams came with the faded dot black border on the white stripes. Also, black center lugnuts on the Rally II's.

Jim Rotella 11-18-2008 12:52 AM

I just thought of one more. Some early '70 Firebirds were produced with the rare metal outside rear body panel instead of the fiberglass type that was used from '70 through '73.
