VinAir in 61 Pt 1
5 Attachment(s)
I finally got around to putting in a Vintage Air. My heater core had a small leak (fixable) but the vacuum control for the air doors seemed unfixable so I decided to make the change. Of course there is no sure fit system for a Pontiac and the Chevy system, although similar, won't fit either. So I did it my way trying to keep as close to a stock appearance as possible.
Step 1 is kiss your glove box goodbye. I did recut mine so I at least had room to store the registration and proof of insurance but little else. For the condenser I ordered the kit for a 64 GTO. I wanted the lower mount furnished with it as that factory bolting for the center bracket in a 61 is very similar to the 64 GTO. I had to modify it tor a single bolt but the result is about 1/2 inch space between the radiator and the condenser. Also I wanted the 90 degree bend #8 condenser inlet tube. I could bent the #6 outlet tube I needed as the tubes furnished for the 64 put the drier onto the inner fender which I didn't want to do. Thanks for posting.
My '63 is an original a/c car and I would like to get it going, but can probably use the existing ductwork and controls (needs a new compressor and related hardware) K |

Thanks Keith. Maybe that will keep stuff together.
I have seen others who have managed to get a whole string of large pictures embedded within the post. Like for instance the thread for the restoration of a magnificent green 64(?) wagon. Went on and on with great pictures but I still can't get my system to copy pictures in that way. |
If you're hosting pictures here on the site you are limited in how many you can put in a single post, but then you can just do a 'Post Reply' and put more pictures in the next post - you don't have to start a whole new discussion for each one.
