Cam and rear gear selection

I have read some threads where rear gears have been part of cam decision.
Something I am not sure of.

So I have standard 400 hundred with 16 heads and tri power I am running a 2004r with 3.73 gears. In a 65 Tempest

Is there something I should considering for cam choice. I own a brand new 2801 but is that the right cam for a peppy street cruiser?

Thanks
Greg

IMO, not a bad cam for the application you have. The 2801 cam has the same duration as the factory 068 cam but has more lift. The 068 cam is the 389 tri-power cam, among other applications.. There may be some better choices, but your splitting hairs on them and you already own this one. I'd use it.

16 heads, the 2801 and a 3.73 will be a hoot.

The 2004R and 3.73's already make it a sweet cruiser. I wouldn't touch that combo no matter what cam you used. I'd just go with the cam you have and enjoy.

Good enough

Perfect cam!

Too bad the compression wasn't less, then you could crank up the initial and remove the vacuum advance and have a solid idling motor..
