I wonder what that combination would make with a more street friendly camshaft and a pump friendly 10,25 compression.

So many interesting things about that motor. All of it really, but the cam and valvetrain in particular. Those cam lobes look like they'd have more duration than what they stated, was it like 280 @ 050? And the sound of that thing at 8500 RPM is just awesome.

I just spent last weekend participating with a Trans Am Series team at the F1 CIrcuit of the Americas track in Austin Texas. The Trans Am cars are running unrestricted cup engines - 900 HP and 10,000 rpm capable although they are mandated to stay below 9000. These cars were hitting 181 mph on the backstretch last year. TA2 cars use hi-perf crate engines limited to 495 HP and 6800 rpm and can still muster 160 mph. This was my third year to join in and another fantastic weekend at COTA.

Last year's Trans Am event included and engine & differential replacement. No coolant resulted in toasted rings and a worn pinion bearing wiped out the ring gear. But what's $70,000 when you're having a good time? Also tore down the transmission before the race just to inspect the dogs on the shift arms (5-speed sequential) and discovered a cracked bearing race - avoided wiping out a $40,000 transmission.
