1970 trans am-ALUMINUM RAV ENGINE

getting closer to getting this engine together.my current project is a 70 ta with a factory aluminum rav block.the block has a casting of DS1001.this is a 69 block,as it only has the 2 hole mount setup.looks like i should get the block back in 2 or 3 weeks from getting the machine work done.this block was a NOS block, not even the standard machine work was done.waiting for the sleeves to show up and be installed.the machine work is being done by KRE.hope to have it installed and running in the car by the first of may.after KRE gets the block machined,Rick Johnson will be building the engine.it will have a stroker steel crank with 4.5 inch stroke and standard 4.120 bore.this will give this standard bore 400 a total of 480 cid.starting to get excited as the weather is also finally starting to break.cant wait to SMOKE SOME TIRES!!!!!!!! i plan on having this car at the co-vention.there is supposed to be about 4 or 5 other RAV cars there this year.i hope it all happens, usually you are lucky to have one RAV car there.this year there should be 5 or 6!!! well,i will keep you guys updated on the progress.

Sounds like it's gonna be a beast, Greg. Keep us informed.

Interesting project! Are your plans to build the car stock appearing, as if Pontiac had built it with an aluminum RAV?

original looking as possible.will definitely tie it together.my avatar shows the shaker decal.

I was there last week and saw the block in the machine. Very neat piece...I just had to touch it. Who welded up all the bracing in the lifter bores? Looks like they did a good job.

It looked like the decks were machined, the distributor hole was standard size but he still had to take it out to RAV size, I think the lifter bores were machined but don't remember for sure as I was too busy looking at all the bracing welded up in there. I didn't see the bottom side. It looked like there was still a lot of work to do but for a CNC machine it probably won't take that long. The machining that was done was looking nice. He told me he was waiting on sleeves. I was going to call you that night or pm you and tell you he had crashed a tool into the side of it but was afraid you'd have a heart attack. Keep us updated. Looking forward to seeing it at the Co-vention.
