Killer Tornado on the ground
Shades of May 3rd, 1999. Moore, OK (S of OKC)
Not the exact same path as '99 but very close |
Not good. Long track BIG tornado, touched down at 2:52 near Newcastle, west of I44. just dissipated W of Lake Draper & S of Tinker AFB
|
I am keeping an eye on it... Tornado season came late this yr but its making up for it all at one time :( I just talked to my wife who is off this week and told her to pack us a bag in case...
|
the only "good" thing about this one is the path is very close to what was wiped off the earth May 3, 1999. Many many people in this area rebuilt their homes with saferooms & tornado shelters under their garage floors.
The path it took today wiped out a bunch of neighborhoods, many of them full of big homes, also some very large businesses. |
Be safe out there. Our prayers are with you guys.

One of my cousins is in Drumright. The last I heard they were still OK. The spec in the picture is the "Storm 6" helicopter.
|
Drumright should not be in the path, its way NE, been there many times.
The pics on KWTV are really bad! |

Pics of Briarwood Elementary not good, PRAYING it had a large saferoom |
The only positive about this storm is that it happened during daylight so they could see it coming and shelter in place. Massage damage shown now on the news...
http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013...homa-city?lite More Tornados are forecasted. Prayers to those affected. |
Our prayers go out to the people of Moore Ok. One witness said that there was plenty of warning---that's good.
|
Not sure who writes Brian Williams copy, but it is very very very rare to get tornado's like this in the Southern Plains well after dark. 99% of the time, its late afternoon into the evening.
For the many stay at home moms & retirees that live in South Moore, many have safe rooms, backyard cellars, & the garage floor entry shelters. Nearly all of these shelters were put in after May 3, 1999. |
Hope you Okies are OK, looking as bad as Joplin did 2 years ago and it's heading our way.
|
Big cell Getting ready to come right over us in the next few minutes! Power on and off
|
Glad your safe Johnny and Roger. Prayers sent to everyone involved.
Roger, I wasn't aware you had moved. You posted as I was, Please stay safe and keep us posted! |

I've been watching the news from Moore. Utter devastation is the only apt description.

Live well away from Moore. Know quite a few families in that area. Unfortunately, bad storms tend to trend through that area. |
Ok, I misread your location and thought you'd moved to Texas.
Stay safe Bud! |
I was at Ft. Sill in Lawton in 1999 when that big twister hit. I drove right by the path, actually the path crossed the freeway, as I drove to Thunder Valley. All I remember is total destruction, I'm sorry to see this happen again.
