Scrap Metal Prices
 

Anybody work in this industry and have any insight into what scrap metal prices might do over the next few months? I really need to do some clean-up around my shop but will wait a few months if prices might climb.

all scrap has slowly been going up,, steel now .045 a pound,copper is 2.10,,( here in OKC)u never know what its going to do,,i would get it all ready and fill your truck and trailer full ,and make the most of your trip..if it goes up in the next 2 or 3 months it wont be much,i think it goes down a little in summer as more people do scrap in warm weather, do it as soon as u can ,get eveything ready....

A week ago scrap sheet was $110.00 a ton. That's up $20.00 a ton from around Christmas.

Bringing this back to the top. Need to haul off some more scrap. Anybody have an insight into what scrap prices might do in the next few months? Currently they are paying $7.00 per hundred pounds here locally.

In the past the indicator for scrap prices rising was the general economy going flat. I've been in the auto repair business for nearly 50 years, and the worse the general economy got, the higher scrap went. Back in 2008-09 scrap was high enough that I scrapped a 1991 Cavalier, and by separating the aluminum A/C parts, and catalyst, I got $380 for a Cavalier. that I paid $200 for, and drove it 90,000 miles.

I also have been saving my scrap, and have a tandem axle trailer heaped up, waiting for a rainy day. The way prices are going, I might need to cash it in to eat soon........:rolleyes:

Just my rather unscientific take on how scrap prices seem to buck the general economy over the last 50 or so years.

I work for a foundry and our biggest cost is scrap. We thought we were going to have to have a price increase late summer but we’re able to avoid it. We will probably have a price increase first of the year but it’s not going to be anything crazy.

If you are t going to hold on to the scrap until Q2 2023 then you might as well take it in now.

$135.00 a ton Saturday around here. I take in scrap appliances. Another yard was advertising $120.00

That's down from $200+ a ton about 4 months ago.

The number of ships scrapped in Brownsville has a bearing on cost of steel and scrap.
Scrapping large vessels is a huge supply of steel, not that its smelted much in the US, but it is in Mexico.
