Hi, my name is Dominic. I'm 16 and I have a 65 tempest 4 door me and my dad Importsmasher pulled out of a junkyard in Utah. Also, I have a 65 parts car I'm planning on selling parts off of in the classifieds section.

Thanks! We've already made a couple upgrades; we have swapped the 2-barrel carb. to a 4-barrel and the 2-speed automatic to a 3-speed stick. I'm planning on making it a 4 speed some day and I want to make the original 326 engine faster than my uncle's stock 383 roadrunner.

Welcome aboard. :welcome:

Honestly I wouldn’t put money into a 326.

For the same or even less outlay you can put together a 400 and nobody can tell from the outside appearance that it’s not a 326. Better yet do a 455. That’s the beauty of the Pontiac V8, they’re all the same physical size externally and all bolt in using the same mounts and exhaust (with minor exceptions).

Just the cost of the oddball 326 pistons would be more than common off the shelf 400 or 455 pistons. Just because you already have the 326 doesn’t mean it’s wise to put money into it, I’d pull it and keep it as a spare good running engine.

Welcome. Congratulations on your find. Way back in early 70s I had a 65 Lemans 326,3spd stick. Fooled with the 326,068 cam,4bbl. Then I switched to 400,4spd muncie. Sold that setup th Then turbo 400,with 350. Then 400 ci. Traded car.

Welcome aboard youngster. Cool ride!
As others have said, they are still plenty of 400-455 bottom ends available.

Good to see a young man interested in Pontiac.

4dblnkldude 02-26-2024 10:24 PM

Heck yeah.. a 65! Good luck and welcome!!

CATBIRD 02-26-2024 10:36 PM

Welcome to the site. Glad to have young people interested in what we enjoy.
One word of caution though. Don't sell a single nut or bolt off that parts car until you are absolutely sure you are done with your project! Nothing is more aggravating than having to buy a part that you already had. Ask me how I know......John

The best part?
Chicks will dig it!

GtoFM 02-26-2024 11:18 PM

Welcome! Get your friends involved bustin' knuckles and spread the fever!
X2 on not investing in the 326. Increase the cubes and set your sights on your uncle's NOPAR.

Jonsie 02-27-2024 11:07 AM
