I used 3.42 gears with one of my old combos. It was a 9.9:1 455" with a decent sft cam. It would not run what it should until I swapped some 3.90's in. With the 3.42's it just felt like it...

If they are still on the car I would just order a set of SCE intake gaskets to block the hole. Those gaskets are solid all the way across between the ports and will work fine. I use them on my car....
