Power to AC compressor?

1969 Firebird with AC. Should there be power to the AC compressor when the lever in the car is moved to the heat or defrost settings? The test light is on at the ac wiring harness at the compressor...

I am looking for a AC duct part for a 1969 firebird. It is called a heater case duct extension with a part number of 9796116. It connects the defrost duct to the inner heater core case.

I am looking for a 69 Firebird lower A/c swivel bracket. It bolts to the head and the compressor then bolts to the bracket. The part number from the assembly manual is 9785787.
