I didn't have anything fancy when I did this. Just a drill, needle files and a die to tap the threads. Took some time but that was it.

Yes, 255s will fit on the front for width. A 255/45R17 is a 26 inch tall tire and this could get a little tight.

Where does it rub?

17x7 with 245/45R17 worked on the front my 68 with a 4" backspace. 3.75" backspace needs a slightly smaller tire and rubbed the back of the fender with the 245/45R17.

Don't know off hand. The car was painted when I got it. It is a little hard to photograph, in the sun it is close to the color of a bottle of orange soda and in the shade it darkens up.

Those are autometer gauges with angle rings. (http://summitracing.com/parts/ATM-2234/) They have two sizes depending on gauge size. That looks nice on the 69. :)
