I had the same problem once. It turned out to be rust in the wheel cylinders. I. Replaced the wheel cylinders and problem went away.

I bought a McLeod 16908 adjustable pivot ball to use in my car with a Lakewood housing. It provides for plenty of adjustment especially if you are using the block plate.
