Manifold Gasket Question

I have a 1967 GTO with 670 heads.

The relatively thin divider between the center two ports has some corrosion due to the fact (I'm guessing,) that the original metal gasket didn't have a center...

I read that the oil pump pickup screen for a Pontiac 400 should be anywhere from 1/2" to a 3/8" from the bottom of the pan. But then I read in another place that it should be closer at 3/8 to a 1/4"...
