If you look close you can see the plunger depress in the lifter. You can see the travel. Takes away all the guesswork and lash counting.

On AC cars there's a valve in the heater hose that shuts off the flow when vacuum is applied to it. Could be stuck closed.

Generally, specific cams start producing 'the best' power at certain rpms.

Dyno sheets help you get an idea of where that is....
