As a follow up. Can the two short hoses to each side of the water pump be replaced without removing the assembly from the car? Seems like it is a pretty tight fit to get the hoses worked in to place....

Thanks for the link to the page. Yeah I have seen parts places list the engines as 317 and some as 316. I usually go with 316 myself. John

1956 Pontiac water pump kit??

Do they sell such a thing as a water pump rebuild kit for the 317 engine? Or just whole rebuild pumps?

Hi Steve, No mine doesn't have the Park marked on the quadrant, it is the earlier type with park in the reverse position. John

transmission oil seal

Has anyone here ever replaced the front oil seal on the Hydramatic while in the car. Or is this one where it is better to pull the engine and transmission and separate and change it? Don't have a car...

The chrome plating is one of the biggest $$$$...

The chrome plating is one of the biggest $$$$ problem on these cars or any for that matter. Anyone tried the mirror chrome on theirs?
