I looked in my manual and it does say that all used a vented cap except the Safari. The "O" ring is fine and ithink you guys are right that the smell is pretty normal after a drive. It does fade away...

Have any of you guys ever "re-stuffed" your breather caps and if so what did you use? It looks like a kind of real coarse steel wool.

I'll throw my nickels worth in as well. Stick with the stock intake and carb. Mine runs better and pulls harder the way Pontiac built it.

I forgot to mention, I initially had one of the rear bars from PST that went between the control arms forward of the rear end. It did not look or feel right.
