I rebuilt the entire front end myself several years ago and know the weren't over tightened. All Moog parts with maybe 10k miles on them. Going to completely tear down and rebuild again this winter.

I used Valspar Tractor and Implement paint Semi gloss black on my 65. It's pretty tough and they sell it in aerosol cans for spot touch ups if needed. Did mine 6 years ago and still holding up well.

Went out and measured my 69 and both passenger and driver side is 45 13/16. Measured from top of striker and not side like your pic. Hooe that helps.
