Good ideas from the other guys about the heater core being plugged...amazing what crud can collect after 30 plus years. Also, I find that 30 plus year old "permanently lubricated" bearings...

Shouldn't be too hard to get the heater core out; it's certainly not the most fun thing to replace but certainly not the worst. If you have a car with factory A/C then you'll have to watch out for...
