Thanks for the illustration - I have 2 manuals, '71 and '72 and did not see the non-tilt in either.

I will clean it as-is, I cannot see a good reason to risk damage by separating just to clean

Unfortunately all those are for tilt columns - this is a non-tilt unit.
If it is a press-on deal, I will let that sleeping dog lie.

Steering column question

I am rebuilding the column in my '71. Is the backdrive shaft pressed onto the shift bowl? I do not see any fasteners...
