After you said that yes, it looks like a counter weight to me. You can see the chamfer and a hole go by. I don’t believe there’s a smoking gun there...

So I guess my question would be could you not put your hand on the distributor housing (not cap) and feel for that when it’s turning? A knock would be easy to feel up the shaft of the distributor

Joe, I’m not sure how far you are from CVM but have them tear it down for you, they know Pontiacs. If close enough, have them come listen to it or run it on a stand once it’s out.

ST, you and I are thinking the same way on this, this seems like ignition to me as well. Watching the heater hose bounce is a big indicator.

Is there an illusion in the video? About 38 seconds in the camera comes over the pipe and shows the starter and it looks like it’s moving in time with the noise.
