I've had the same problem, and ended up putting a short neck water pump from a 69 GP on the front of my motor (69 YD Block). Still had to add spacers to the PS pump.

yea, I got a 67 Firebird with a 69 GTO motor, same deal. Fuel pump drivers side, fuel lines passenger side. I do have hard lines running from the pump to the tank tho.
