BTW, it is not out of the realm for an original cast iron 73 SD intake to be in the $4-5,000.00 range. If you can find one for less buy it. It may be a very long time until find another.

I seem to remember 73 as being the first year...

I seem to remember 73 as being the first year that used that cover. I believe it was used to shield the rag joint from excessive underhood heat and oils.
