Well, they have changed the metallurgy of the Hyper pistons four times that I know of along with increasing the recommended top ring gap. I know of three failures locally of the early ones where the engines were naturally aspirated and set up according to the included specs. If there had not been an inherent problem, there would have been no reason to change.

I do have a friend that is running the fourth reincarnation with a .035" top ring gap for over two years now without a problem. Running hyper's is like running cast pistons - it just doesn't cost that much extra to avoid the possible problems all together.
