Looks like you’re running 9” wide wheels all around.

1970 - 1972 A-body front fender wheel openings are pretty spacious, especially when compared to the 1968 - 1969 cars. Not the least bit surprised that a 275/40-17 works in the front with the right wheels.

I was able to squeeze 18x9” wheels all around (245/40 and 275/40) on my 1964 Tempest which has much less room than a 1970. This can only be accomplished by carefully measuring your clearances and then searching for wheels with the proper backspace in the styles that you like.

I ended up with 5.5” of backspace in the front and 6.57” in the rear to shoehorn in the 18x9” wheels.
