We have now disconnected the tranny from the engine. The engine revs top fine on its own....so it seems to be the converter. I may have to ad that the tranny makes a loud hissing sound when driving in the lower gears...most noticeable on startup. From what I read this points to a broken converter...I have another converter that we will swap in to test if this solves the problem.
