I own a '64 GP and though I have not driven it yet (I'm in the process of restoring it), I have not seen this problem with my car. Even before the car was taken apart and even after replacing all of the steering/suspension system, I did not have any issue with the steering arm contacting the oil pan.
I think the other reply about worn engine mounts or suspension/steering parts is playing a role in that issue. Good luck and let us know what you find.
